Beijing to add 300 km to subway system by 2020

Beijing will expand its current subway transportation network by adding 300 km by the end of 2020, said the municipal transport commission at an industrial forum held on Wednesday. At present, the capital has 608 km of subways.
Currently, the daily passenger flow volume of the capital's subway system is 10.35 million and the shortest departure interval is within two minutes.
Li Xianzhong, director of the commission, said at the forum that the authority is working on providing comprehensive transportation network, dealing with parking difficulties and balancing the total number of vehicles and the growing demands.
"To meet the demand, the city will provide more fast lanes of buses to share the burden of the subways," he said. "In terms of the car parking problem, it's a headache for many big international cities. Thus, we can learn from their experiences."
