China's southernmost island province Hainan has announced a plan to attract global investment and talent to advance its development as a pilot international free trade zone.

Starting from the end of this month, Hainan will move to implement the plan by first organizing a 100-day investment event to entice overseas investors and talent, according to a government meeting held in Haikou on Tuesday.

The event will serve as an important platform to attract global investors, projects, industries, advanced technologies and management experiences and economic parks for Hainan, said government officials.

The event is also looking forward to attracting more much-needed talent.

A talent introduction strategy, which aims to woo millions of talent to the island, will also be launched at the end of this month, said the meeting. It disclosed that special housing policies will be made to attract talent.

Hainan will also create a better environment for business people and enterprise innovation, and further advance construction of infrastructure on the island.

The plan is one of the measures announced to implement the requirements set by the central government to welcome investors from around the world to participate in the construction of the Hainan island as an international pilot free trade zone.

Last month, while celebrating the 30th anniversary of Hainan being designated as a new province, the central government unveiled plans to build Hainan into a pilot international free trade zone and gradually explore building a free trade port with Chinese characteristics.
