Su Dongpo, a drama about Su Dongpo, a Chinese historical personage who handled civil affairs with dedication, acted in good faith and behaved with clean hands, depicts his official career, poetry composition and emotions. Different from poets Li Bai or Du Fu, he worked as a government official for over forty years and ministered to five emperors. Despite his turbulent official career, he kept administering and transferred to many locations, always bringing benefits to the people. He was a literary giant in the Song Dynasty (960-1127), and his literary achievements were made when he suffered setbacks in his official career. In Huangzhou, Huizhou and Danzhou, where he was grieved for "demotion", SU, however refined his thoughts and made great achievements in literary creation. He had three wives surnamed Wang, of who Wang Fu was with him when he was young and inexperienced but in the pride of his heart; Wang Runzhi was with him when he had marked ups and downs in the official circle; Wang Zhaoyun was with him when he lived in exile in Guangdong. The drama Su Dongpo depicts Su's literary achievements and emotional life in the background of his official career.
