| Magpies are auspicious birds for Chinese Valentine's Day. Legend has it that separated lovers Niulang (Cowherd) and Zhinu (Weaving Maid), banished to opposite sides of the Milky Way, are only able to reunite once a year, on Qixi, when a flock of magpies form a bridge across the "silver river".
