Xiamen Ocean Gate Automated Terminal, located in Haicang, Xiamen, is China's first fully-automated container terminal.

Dubbed the "Devil's Dock", most of the terminal's functions are operated through automated machinery and equipment controlled by computers in a central control room.

"From designing to manufacturing, this terminal is 100 percent China made," Chen Yipeng, vice president of Xiamen Ocean Shipping (Group) Co said proudly at the terminal. The routes can radiate to all BRICS countries, added Chen.

"The major exports are clothing and shoes and we import grains and ores from Brazil and timber from Russia," Chen said.

Compared with a traditional container terminal on the same scale, this terminal produces 16 percent less carbon emissions, and consumes 25 percent less energy.
