France's Alstom signs $1.35b contract with Brazil

PARIS - Alstom, France's transport infrastructure and power generation giant, on Wesdnesday said it signed a preliminary accord with Brazilian energy group Renova Energia to provide hundreds of wind tribunes worth more than one billion euros (1.35 billion US dollars).

Under the four-year agreement, Alstom will "operate and maintain in Brazil around 440 onshore wind turbines" that were expected to represent at least 1,200 MW new wind power generation capacity, the French group said.

In a statement, Alstom said it would provide the Brazilian group with turbines over the next three years with the first ones projected in 2015.

Alstom is a world leader in transport and energy infrastructure, with a presence in more than 70 countries and over 96,000 employees.
