Gambian police warn of foreign criminal gangs

Xinhua | Updated: 2012-11-23 11:16

BANJUL - Gambian police Thursday warned citizens of dangers posed by criminal gangs, including foreign ones, saying they are not welcome to the country.

"Gambia will continue to welcome foreigners but will not (welcome) foreign criminal gangs to intrude the peace and stability of the country", said Madam Katty Harding, head of community police.

She advised landlords to scrutinize tenants before letting them rent their houses.

Gambian community police Monday toured and met some local communities to discuss security in the West African country, advising them to be aware of domestic violence as well as the new waves of what she described as foreign crimes, such as kidnapping and drug peddling.

Harding advised parents not to send their underage children, especially girls, to do petty trading.
