Xinhua | Updated: 2012-04-30 12:15

VIENNA - Austrian police said Sunday the body of Libya's former oil minister Shukri Ghanem was found in the Danube, APA news agency reported.

Ghanem's body was found floating in the river on Sunday morning without external signs of violence, police spokesman Roman Hahslinger said in a statement.

Hahslinger said the cause of his death is still not immediately clear,  adding that an autopsy would be carried out in the coming days.

"It is possible that he felt unwell and fell into the water," the police spokesman added.

Meanwhile according to earlier reports citing his family members, Ghanem, 69, was found dead in his apartment due to a likely heart attack.
