Xinhua | Updated: 2012-02-27 05:15

HOHANNESBURG - South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela was discharged on Sunday from hospital after doctors declared nothing "seriously wrong" with his health, said the Presidency on Sunday.

The Presidency said in a statement the diagnostic procedure he performed indicated "nothing seriously wrong" with him, and the doctors decided to send him home.

Mandela, aged 93, is relaxed and comfortable, surrounded by his family, said the statement.

On Saturday afternoon, Mandela underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy to determine the cause of longstanding abdominal complaint following him being admitted to hospital on Saturday morning.

South African President Jacob Zuma said the doctors had assured them there is nothing to worry about Mandela, and he is in good health.

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, and he was the first South African president to be elected in a fully representative democratic election with his president term from 1994 to 1999.
