Xinhua | Updated: 2011-12-31 10:02

LAGOS - A bomb explosion killed four people on Friday in Nigeria's troubled city of Maiduguri, police said.

The blast occurred near a mosque where several worshippers were also injured.

Meanwhile, hospital sources reported one more death from Christmas attacks, bringing to toll to 42.

The incident came one day after Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan held a meeting with  security chiefs on the worsening situation.

Between June and December, Nigeria has lost more than 200 innocent lives to the violent activities of the extremist sect group, Boko Haram, operating in northern part of the West African country. Maiduguri is one of the northern cities suffering nearly daily attacks.
