Ye Qiaobo is the first Chinese speedskater to become a world champion. She earned China's first Winter Olympic medal at the 1992 Albertville Games in the 500-meter event. She also won the silver in the 1,000-meter competition at the 1992 Albertville Games. She retired in 1994 with 13 World Cup wins.
