Chen Yajuan, director of Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, noted that intellectual property (IP) is at the core of a city’s competitiveness and an excellent IP environment is essential for the legal and international business environment. The administration is working on a five-year IP strategy to support the construction of a Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone, a Sci-tech Innovation Center and a Global City.
According to Chen, the administration will issue quality-oriented policies to encourage high-quality patents, strengthen the construction of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Transaction Center, better utilize IP operation funds, and enhance patent pledges, insurance and assessment to support the IP competitiveness promotion of key industries. The efforts on IP also include establishing convenient and efficient services and building a string of IP service institutions, such as the China (Pudong) Intellectual Property Protection Center, the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property and the Intellectual Property Service Center.
