Shanghai strives for intellectual property improvement

An average of about 40.2 patents were registered for every 10,000 people in Shanghai as of October 2017, according to statistics released at the 14th Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum on Dec 12, 2017.

In the first 10 months of 2017, Shanghai submitted 107,020 patent applications, an increase of 17.9 percent year-on-year, including 44,577 invention patents, an increase of 9.7 percent. The authorized patents reached 58,880, up 7.1 percent. Authorized invention patents decreased by 10.9 percent to 16,614.

By the end of October, Shanghai held 97,382 valid invention patents, a year-on-year growth of 16.9 percent. The proportion of Shanghai’s invention patents valid for over five years was 74.4 percent, ranking second among 31 provinces, cities and districts in the country.
