The move looks set to integrate the advantages of the city and the university and form win-win cooperation between the two sides.

TUSGC will become a new engine for innovation and provide talent support for Shenzhen's goal of becoming an international science, technology and industrial innovation center, said Ma Xingrui, head of Shenzhen.

TUSGC will serve as an important part of Tsinghua University and implement its global strategy and goal of becoming a global first-class university, said Chen Xu, head of Tsinghua University.

The two sides have maintained partnership for many years. Having been established for 15 years, the Graduate School in Shenzhen of Tsinghua University has enjoyed cooperation with renowned universities and research institutes from many countries, including Japan, UK, Italy and France.

The university also set up the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute in 2014, with the aim of cultivating leaders in technological sectors and fostering entrepreneurship.
