This year, a record 50,000 people applied with 30,000 selected to take part on the day, including 15,000 competing in the full marathon, 10,000 in the half marathon and 5,000 in the mini marathon. The 2016 Wuxi International Marathon is Jiangsu's biggest marathon event and the only full-length marathon to be held in the province.

The routes of the full marathon, the half and the mini marathons, run past many scenic spots and historical landmarks, such as Lihu Lake, Turtle Head Isle, Changguangxi Wetland Park, Wuxi Grand Theater and the Star of Taihu ferris wheel.

Cao, a 65-year-old runner from Shanghai, has participated in more than 60 marathons across China over the past 13 years and Wuxi's views impressed him most, in spite of its short history. He appreciated the views along the road when running and even stopped to take photos.
