The city of Wuxi in East China’s Jiangsu province linked up with Zielona Gora of western Poland’s Lubuskie Province, following the signing of a sister city relationship agreement on June 23 in Zielona Gora.

Zhou Minwei, president of the Wuxi municipal political consultative conference, and Janusz Kubicki, mayor of Zielona Gora, represented the two cities during the signing ceremony.

Zielona Gora is an environmental friendly and energetic city with a booming economy. It is located in the cooperation area of China’s the Belt and Road Initiative, making it an ideal partner for cooperation, according to Zhou.

Zhou added that he hoped the two cities would strengthen communication and cooperation to establish a permanent and reciprocal relationship.

Kubicki said the two cities had a large cooperation potential in fields of education, culture, art and sports, based on their longstanding bilateral relationship. Zielona Gora invited Wuxi-based enterprises to invest in the Polish city.

Communication between the two cities was established in 2004 and a cooperation memorandum between their two industrial parks was signed in 2012, kick starting regular information exchanges, activity promotions and project services.

Zielona Gora is the capital of Lubuskie province and contains around 152,000 inhabitants within its city limits and 316,000 inhabitants within its metropolitan area, which includes three neighboring counties. The city is famous for its wines.

Zielona Góra means "green mountain" in both Polish and German.
