The replica of a plain silk gauze garment unearthed in Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) Tombs in Mawangdui of Changsha, Hunan province, in 1972, attracts most visitor' attention at the recently reopened Nanjing Yunjin Museum in Jiangsu.
The museum staff have spent 13 years creating the replica, which is almost identical to the original one.
"The garment is light and transparent. We can see through prints on a newspaper despite the garment is folded in 10 layers!" said Wang Baolin, the director of Nanjing Yunjin Institute.
Apart from the plain silk gauze garment, over 100 Yunjin artifacts, including a dragon robe of the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom's emperor are on exhibition at the museum.
The craftsmanship of Nanjing Yunjin Brocade was listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009. Yunjin will also be represented by China-born fashion designer Laurence Xu during the Nanjing Week at Expo Milano 2015
