Pages of Qian Xiaohua's life through his bookstores
In April 2003, the Librairie Avant-Garde -- Confucius Temple Branch opened. The branch bookstore was called “the Avant-Garde avenue, a reading square” as it was the longest bookstore in China at 160 meters long and 12 meters wide, covering 2,000 square meters in the underground shopping mall street near Nanjing’s famous Confucius Temple. It was a greatly cherished bookstore for the owner, Qian Xiaohua. However, Confucius Temple, a tourist site, did not have many readers, and the bookstore closed down in 2004.
