Dandong's forestry output value exceeds 10 billions yuan

In 2011, Dandong's forestry output value amounted to 10.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.8 percent, ranking 6th among cities in China's Liaoning province.

Having 100 million hectares of forested area, Dandong enjoys exceptional advantages and a huge potential in the forestry sector. To further promote the development of industry, it has worked out the overall layout, development tasks and focuses.

After years of progress, Dandong has shaped its forestry industry through its unique regional features. Dandong has an area of over 100,000 hectares of Chinese chestnut forest. With an annual production of Chinese chestnut reaching 80 thousand tons, Dandong has become the biggest Chinese chestnut production, processing and export base in China.

The city's commodity forest has covered an area of 133,333 hectares and its Korean pine forest has reached 46,333 hectares. An area of 45,067 hectares is used to plant Chinese medicine and another 23,667 hectares and 3,333 hectares are for edible wild herbs, flowers and sapling bases. More than 200 million wood frogs can be produced annually in Dandong. With a forested area of over 333,333 hectares, forestry is the new economy in the mountainous area and has increased the income of farmers.

On the basis of enlarging the forestry infrastructure, Dandong vigorously promotes further processing of forestry products to lengthen its industrial chain. Ecotourism is also becoming more popular and is a new growth point for the city.
