Sun Yongyu's calligraphy exhibit in Beijing 

The "Sun Yongyu Calligraphy Works Exhibition" held its opening reception at the French culture center in Beijing on Feb 18, 2012. The exhibition opened on Feb 12 and will last until March 2, displaying near 100 calligraphy works of the Chinese character "Long" (dragon).

The exhibition is co-hosted by the Beijing French Alliance, China Farmers Painting Seminar and Dandong International Culture Association. Leaders, journalists and calligraphy fans attended the opening reception and appreciated the calligraphy pieces.

Sun Yongyu, vice-president of the calligraphers association of Donggang, has been engaged in calligraphy career for over 30 years. Starting in 2000, he traveled and began to write the Chinese character "Long" in nature. He has produced one thousand pieces of the Chinese character "Long" in different styles.

The principal of the French alliance said that they are very interested in the Chinese character "Long" (dragon) calligraphy for dragon is the symbol of the Chinese nation and it represents the sprit of the Chinese culture. They held the exhibition to promote cultural exchanges between China and France.

Xu Jing, head of the China Farmers Painting Seminar thought highly of Sun Yongyu's calligraphy. He said Sun's calligraphy works had formed a unique artistic style.

Li Xiaoping, director for the publicity office of Dandong municipal Party committee, said that the exhibition also expands the channel for Dandong's foreign cultural exchange. It plays an active role in increasing Dandong's popularity in China and in the world.
