Citizens voice support for civilization messenger campaign

The civilization messenger campaign is a hot topic in Dandong and was discussed by representatives and citizens. This occurred during the city's "two sessions", CPC and CPPCC, two political conferences held annually for representatives selected to decide and discuss the city's development issues.

Launched in August 2011, the campaign aims to increase citizens' sense of cultural responsibility and to improve the city's urban civilization.

It has been received with great enthusiasm from the Dandong people. Participants involved in the campaign are from all walks of life and assist through various means. This ranges from charitable activities organized in communities to dumping garbage in waste bins and walking on the zebra stripes when crossing roads.

According to Jiang Hongwei, a representative of CPC, the spirit of the campaign is rooted in the educational sphere. Students are advocated to be polite passengers, disciplined learners and filial children. She believes this campaign will promote civic engagement in the society.

Zhao, a taxi driver in Dandong city told the reporter that he plans on providing free services at his taxi company to handicapped people. This sets an example for how the taxi industry can improve their services.
