According to the Plan of Logistics Development in Northeast China from 2011 to 2015, Dandong, along with 16 other cities, has been listed as a grade II logistics node city in northeast China. This was promulgated recently by the National Development and Reform Commission.

Under the plan, China will facilitate the smooth running of logistics in the eastern part of northeast China (Hegang-Jiamusi-Mudanjiang-Tumen-Tonghua-Dandong-Dalian) from 2011 to 2015. It will improve the transportation capacity of railways and highways in the eastern part, and accelerate the expansion of the Dandong Port, a sea gate in the east.

China will also enhance construction of transportation channels connecting the eastern Inner Mongolia and the western part of northeast China. It will elevate the capacity of the transportation corridor that joins Huolin Guole, Tongliao, Shenyang and Dandong in Liaoning province. Dandong Port will be part of the system that transports grains from the north to the south of China. It will also participate in building an iron ore system through the construction of new ore terminals.

In addition, Northeast China will speed up infrastructure construction, including the highway bridge bordering Yalu River and improve the border port traffic capacity and information-based operations. It will develop Sino-DPRK border logistic services through the ports in Dandong and Huichun.

According to leading officials, the city is actively promoting construction of a number of parks in the Dandong port area and the Dandong side of the newly constructed Yalu River Bridge. Efforts will be made to accelerate the construction of four logistics channels that respectively connect Dandong with Shenyang, Tonghua, Dalian and with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Dandong will gradually build up 10 logistics centers for commodities such as grains, minerals, coal, timber and steel. It will keep improving logistic infrastructures and information network systems, and will develop a third and fourth party logistics service.
