The Korean War Memorial Museum at 68 Jinjiang Hill St in Dandong was built in 1958. On July 27, 1993, the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement, the new museum was completed and officially opened. President Hu Jintao, when he was a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and secretary of the CPC Secretariat, attended the opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the memorial.

The Korean War Memorial Museum consists of three main buildings housing an exhibit hall, panorama museum and monument, integrating traditional Chinese styles and modern architecture. The total area is 180,000 square meters.

The layout of the museum is a triangular three-story building. The museum's center is the preface hall. At the front of the preface hall is a sculpture titled "Safeguarding our Country". In front are statues of Mao Zedong and Peng Dehuai. Peng was commander of the volunteer army that entered the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to help in the war to resist the US aggression.

The panorama museum is a circular building which is 28.4 meters high and is divided into two layers. The upper floor is the panorama exhibition hall, and the lower is the air force museum and temporary exhibit hall.

The monument is composed of tower base group rooms and the main tower. The tower is 53 meters high, symbolizing the signing of the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement. The tower base group rooms have a floor space of 2,900 square meters. The monument front is seven gilt characters that spell "Korean War Monument". It was inscribed by Deng Xiaoping. In the tower are texts recording achievements of the voluntary army.
