Taicang, a county-level city in Jiangsu province, will deepen its ties with Germany cities and enterprises, according to a meeting between Taicang government leaders and delegates from the German Consulate in Shanghai on Nov 25.

Shen Mi, Party secretary of Taicang, said that Taicang's achievements in promoting Sino-German cooperation have been widely recognized and the city is now positioned as a national pilot zone for economic and technological exchange between the two countries.

He expressed hope that the German Consulate in Shanghai would invite Taicang to more high-level bilateral events.

Christine D. Althauser, consul general of Germany in Shanghai, said that over 300 German enterprises are located in the city, attesting to its excellent investment environment.

She also said that the German Consulate in Shanghai and Taicang both wish to promote comprehensive cooperation in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Taicang currently houses more than 300 German companies, which have invested a total of $4.5 billion and generate more than 50 billion yuan ($7.5 billion) in industrial output every year, according to official figures.
