Yao Jiakang, a Chinese collection expert, has donated seven picture-story books, featuring tales of Zheng He's legendary voyages, to the county-level city of Taicang in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province.

The donation ceremony was held on June 11 at Zheng He Park to celebrate China National Maritime Day.

Zheng He (1371-1433), the ancient maritime exploration pioneer, was renowned for his seven historic voyages across the Pacific and Indian oceans in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), which aimed to establish peaceful ties with then unknown realms in far-off regions around the globe. His pioneering spirit still acts as an inspiration to locals.

The treasured picture-story book series, collected from the 1970s, illustrate the history of Zheng He’s seven maritime exploration trips and give local residents a chance to commemorate the pioneer and his adventures.

Yao Jiakang, one of China's distinguished collection experts, has been engaged in collecting for 45 years. He has collected more than 20,000 volumes of Chinese and foreign picture-story books on various subjects and donated more than 5,000 comic books to museums, schools and libraries.
