Taicang-based food company Suzhou Koushuiwa Co has the 7th best brand of any agricultural company in China, according to a new report by the Center for China Agricultural Brands and Ali Research.

The 2016 China Agricultural Product Brand Reputation Research Report listed the 50 agribusinesses in the country with the best reputations online.

Based in Taicang, Jiangsu province, Koushuiwa produces, processes and sells more than 1,200 different food products, including nuts, puffed snacks and bean products.

The company has seen rapid development in recent years. The company generated 241 million yuan ($36.6 million) in sales revenue during the first half of 2017, an increase of 27.4 percent year-on-year.

In May 2011, the company set up an e-commerce department and started selling its products online via Tmall, the e-marketplace owned by China's e-commerce giant Alibaba, the next month.

It now also sells its products through Taobao, JD.com, and other leading e-commerce retailers.

Koushuiwa has become increasingly popular among China's online shoppers. Its online sales revenue has increased to 56.5 million yuan in the first six months of 2017, a 62.6 percent year-on-year rise.

The company intends to take further advantage of e-commerce platforms to lower costs, improve its competitiveness, and promote its sustainable development in the coming years.

Koushuiwa's success reflects the good performance of food companies in Jiangsu province in 2017. The rise of food companies is helping accelerate agricultural modernization in the province, boosting farmers' incomes and promoting development in rural areas.

Officials in the Taicang government said that the city's leading food companies have maintained good momentum in the first half of this year, their sales revenue reaching 2.4 billion yuan during the period, an increase of 9.13 percent year-on-year.

They added that more than 50,000 mu (3,333 hectares) of production bases have been established, benefiting over 44,900 local farmers. Taicang will continue to strengthen its policy support and services to agricultural companies to help them develop further.
