The city of Taicang in Jiangsu province launched its 27th scientific popularization week on May 19 and is set to hold over 300 science events in the city the following week.

As part of the week-long activities, the Shanghai International Scientific and Arts Exhibition also commenced on the same day and will feature a sports-themed 3D works show, simulation golf and motion sensing games.

By using motion-detecting cameras, players can control motion sensing games by the movement of their bodies. Lu Jianxiong, a staff member of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology said, "Nowadays office workers lack exercises due to the limit of time and space. The motion sensing games can help them play basketball, football and golf at home."

The 2015 China Robot Competition and the RobotCup China Open will also take place in Taicang during the week, allowing locals to see cutting-edge robots used in the medical and service industries.

A group of science and technology experts will also be invited to promote science and technology among enterprises, schools and communities. Entry to Zhenhe Park will be free on May 21 and 22.

The event aims to promote the relevance of science and technology in people's everyday lives and stimulate an interest in science among the public, especially among young people.
