Chen Yung-Tai was born into a poor family inTaiwanin 1936. In order to finish his education he had to take on various part-time jobs.

In 1965, several years after graduating from college, Chen started his own business, AURORA Group that sells Office Automation equipment and goods.

After 48 years of work, the group has become a leading brand in the office industry, with businesses covering Office Automation (OA) equipment, office furniture, communications and electronics. The company has more than 1,000 direct distribution channels and over 6,000 employees across the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

In Taiwan, the group, occupying 40 percent of the OA market, consists of two listed companies, AURORA Corp. and Huxun Corp.

In 1995, Aurora Group began investing in the Chinese mainland when Shanghai’s Pudong area was still a wasteland. Chen bought land along the Huangpu River and built Aurora Plaza, which included a 38-floor main building.

As the group grew fast in the mainland, it also stretched itself internationally by establishing overseas branches in the United States, Japan and Singapore. It hired agencies for products such as paper shredders, laminators, punch clocks and calculators.
