Her "little father"

Onlookers would be forgiven if they mistook Lu's brother, who is tall and 10 years older than her, for her father. In fact, Lu Jun has acted as a "little father" to his sister all her life. He would help her with school assignments, take her out for fun and give her pocket money.

"My brother attended parents' meetings at school for me and signed his name where the parents usually did. He was strict with my behavior and academic performance and I was more fearful of him than my parents," Lu says.

Lu Jun became a father himself 10 years ago, and he joked that the infant was his second daughter. "How about you raise my daughter because I put so much effort into you, I feel exhausted," he joked with his sister.

Lu Jun helped his sister make significant decisions in her studies and career.

Ahead of her pending nuptials he told her, "We will soon be members of two independent families and you cannot depend on your brother in the future, but I'll back you up forever."
