Colombia's former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt lets out a sigh of relief after reaching an air base in Bogota on Wednesday. The Colombian Army freed her, three US nationals and 11 other hostages from their FARC captors. Colombian military intelligence agents infiltrated the FARC's top ranks in an operation that began last year, and conducted a daring helicopter rescue so successful that not a single shot was fired. Buddhist temples are not normally associated with obstetrics. Since the May 12 earthquake, however, 81 infants have been born in Luohan Temple, first built in AD 709, in the small earthquake-hit city of Shifang in Sichuan province.

President Hu Jintao will attend the dialogue between G8 and developing nations on July 9 at Lake Toya in Hokkaido, Japan. The dialogue, which was launched in 2000, took a step forward in 2003 when China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico joined the talks and has been growing into a mechanism in recent years.
