Xinjiang building second safari park

2003-11-22

Visitors to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China will have another option of attraction as the region has begun construction of its second safari park.

Covering 55 square km in the Tianshan Mountain grassland in northern Xinjiang's Dabancheng area, the park is expected to cost 68 million yuan (8.22 million US dollars) on its completion in four years.

The park will host 2,010 wild animals of 62 species, such as wild asses, goats, argali and antelopes.

Xinjiang's first safari park was built in Hoxud County, in the Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Bayingolin, in 2001. It is home to over 10,000 animals of 200 species.
