2003-06-10
Xinhua

Construction of a railway bridge between Xi'an and Baoji, two large cities in Northwest China, started on June 10.

It marks the beginning of a project to shorten the journey on the Xi'an-Baoji railway section, believed the quickest railway section in China.

When the project is completed, train speeds on this section will be increased from 120-140 kilometers per hour to 160-200 kilometers per hour, setting a national record.

The project also includes construction of 143 curve tracks and three tunnels. It is scheduled to be completed in five months.
