2002-08-15
People's Daily

Tibet wishes to promote cooperation with India in the economic field and in border trade, said Losang Toinzhub, vice-chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Government, in Lhasa Wednesday.

He said this during a meeting with Nalin Surie, joint secretaryof the Indian Foreign Ministry, and his delegation. The two discussed border trade as well as issues concerning Indian pilgrims travelling to Tibet.

Losang Toinzhub said friendship between India and China has been enriched by high-level exchanges in recent years.

The two sides need to make a joint effort to tap the huge potential in border trade, Surie said.
