9 dead in north China mine cave-in

TAIYUAN - Nine workers were killed and one was rescued in a coal mine cave-in in north China's Shanxi Province, said rescuers on Wednesday.

The only survivor is in stable condition in a hospital.

The collapse occurred at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Danshuigou colliery in Shuozhou City, when workers were doing shaft maintenance work. Ten were trapped.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
