Mobile phones increasingly used to distribute porn

Live broadcasts and micro videos on mobile phones are being increasingly used for pornographic and obscene content, according to the Shanghai Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications.

Deputy director Wang Yifeng announced more than one million accounts used for live broadcasts, registered in Shanghai, were shut down for shows featuring obscene content or hosting online gambling between August and October.

Over 450,000 broadcasters have been required to register their real identity, he added.

About 150 websites registered in the country enable individuals to live broadcast, attracting 200 million users so far.

Some apps, such as miaopai, VivaVideo, and weipai, enable users to make micro videos and this has also been used to distribute obscene content, Wang said.

It's clear that more people are using mobile phones, rather than their computers, to distribute pornographic and obscene content, according to Wang.
