A 9-year-old boy who died last month became the youngest organ donor in the Guangdong province city of Yingde after his father agreed to donate his corneas, kidneys and liver.

Xie Tingkang, a grade 3 pupil at Hanguang Zhongxin Primary School, Yingde, was seriously injured in a traffic accident on May 25.

After 10 days in an intensive care unit he was pronounced brain dead.

Xie's body was taken to the General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Command in Guangzhou on Tuesday for organ transplant after Xie's father had signed organ release forms, according to a doctor from the hospital on Tuesday.

“Xie's liver, kidneys and corneas will help rescue at least four to five patients,” the doctor told China Daily.

But the doctor did not reveal the identity of the recipients.

Xie was born to a farmer's family and he had an older sister, a student in a local junior high school.
