63 trafficked children rescued in China
BEIJING - Chinese police have rescued 63 children and 14 women in a cross-provincial campaign against human trafficking, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said on Saturday.
Five child trafficking gangs were busted and 368 suspects arrested in the actions coordinated by the MPS, which involved more than 6,000 police staff from 20 provincial-level regions, on the evening of March 1, the ministry said in a statement.
The police are hunting down more suspects and investigation is under way, said the MPS.
An unidentified official from the MPS said child trafficking is still rampant in China although the crime has been effectively contained in general. He added that the police will strengthen regional cooperation to further crack down on the crime.
