BEIJING - On Monday, China called on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States to create conditions for the restart of six-party talks and a proper solution to relevant issues.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu made the remarks in reference to talks between US envoy for DPRK policy Stephen Bosworth and DPRK Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan scheduled from October 24 to 25 in Geneva.

"We support the two countries' dialogue and hope this helps enhance mutual trust and creates conditions to restart the nuclear talks and reach a proper solution," Jiang said.

Bosworth and Kim held their first round of talks in late July in New York. After the Geneva talks, Bosworth will step down as envoy and be replaced by Glyn Davies, a career diplomat who served as principal deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asia and Pacific affairs and is currently serving as US ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
