PORT OF SPAIN - Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said here on Monday that China is ready to work with Caribbean countries to deepen their economic and trade cooperation and achieve win-win results.
Wang made the remarks during separate meetings with several Caribbean leaders on the sidelines of the third China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum in Port of Spain, capital of Trinidad and Tobago.
Wang said relations between China and Caribbean countries have been developing smoothly in recent years, with fruitful cooperation in many areas.
China will work with Caribbean countries to deepen pragmatic cooperation, make further efforts to implement economic and technological cooperation projects between them and expand cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, investment, finance, infrastructure and tourism to achieve win-win results for both, Wang said.
Caribbean leaders, including Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo, Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding, Grenadian Prime Minister Tillman Thomas and Surinamese Vice President Robert Ameerali, agreed that China is an important partner in their countries' development. The success of the forum reflects the friendly relations between China and Caribbean countries.
The leaders said they welcome investment and tourists from China, and pledged further efforts to implement specific projects with China and tap the potential for cooperation in tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, new energy, mining and public health.
After their meetings, Wang attended signing ceremonies for inter-governmental cooperation agreements between China and respective Caribbean countries.
China will provide $1 billion in preferential loans to support economic development in Caribbean countries, according to Wang at the opening ceremony of the forum.
