BEIJING - China on Wednesday repeated its objections to the United States' arms sales to Taiwan, as the Obama administration is reportedly considering new deals with the island.

"It's a matter of principle. China stoutly opposes US arms sales to Taiwan," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said during a regular press briefing.

Jiang urged the US to abide by the three Sino-US joint communiquès in which the United States committed to limiting its sales of arms to Taiwan.

Jiang also urged the US to be "fully aware" of the sensitivity of the issue and to stop arms sales to Taiwan in order to avoid damaging both Sino-US ties and the development of cross-Strait relations.
