Xia: 1st blind CPPCC member from Fujian

Xia Rongqiang talks about how he helps the blind

Xia Rongqiang, is one of the 2,235 members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to attend the annual session in Beijing.

What makes him stand out is that he is the only and first blind member of the CPPCC National Committee from east China's Fujian province.

He is the principal of a blind school in Fuzhou,the capital city of Fujian, which is affiliated to the Hadley School for the Blind in the United States.

Hadley School for the Blind is known worldwide for its tuition-free distance-education courses for people who are visually impaired. Hadley's main school in the United States serves more than 9,000 students, and the school in China provides vital educational services to more than 1,000 Chinese students.

Born in 1953, Xia Rongqiang lost his sight at the age of 21.
