A 15-year-old boy from Henan province was escorted home on Wednesday after setting out alone to visit his grandfather in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Wang Xing could not find his grandfather's home on his own, and with no money decided to make the trek back to Henan on foot.

Urumqi police in Xinjiang found the teenager walking along a highway.

"It's a long distance of some 4,000 km from Urumqi to his home town - how did he think he could get there on foot?" local police said.
