Pigozzi said he loves parties because people are more relaxed around cameras and have more fun. If a person is alone in a room, it's easy for them to become nervous while being photographed. No matter whether an insider or an outsider, a trusted friend or a fan, Pigozzi's photos reflect moments of intimacy in the life of the rich and famous. Tan said Pigozzi's photos will give the Chinese a glimpse into the lives of the Western glitterati.

This is the first time Pigozzi has held a show in China, although the exhibition has toured several countries. He selected some portraits of Chinese stars for his first China show, including Jackie Chan, Zhang Ziyi and Zhang Jingchu.

The Frenchman has visited China many times, beginning in 1979 with an American artist.

"People were all riding bikes and all in blue when I first came. It's quite different now," Pigozzi said.

On the opening night of his show, Pigozzi was busy talking to friends and being introduced to visitors. But he never stopped taking photos of others or selfies with them without them noticing.

"You know, I need to take more than 100 photos in order to get a perfect one," he explained.
