Duolingo, a leading language-learning application, officially launched for Android in China on Friday, offering its free English courses to the country's 270 million Android users.

The US-based start-up, which has become the largest online educational app on iPhone's iOS system and Google Play, gained 30 million users in the two years since it was launched, and is eyeing the huge potential of China's English learning market.

Duolingo gained 1.5 million Chinese users in its first week after it launched for iOS system in China at the end of April. "There are 250 million people learning English in China," said Luis von Ahn, founder of Duolingo.

Duolingo currently offers a total of 31 language courses globally and more languages will become available for Chinese speakers soon.

The app will be exclusively available on the 360 app store for two days from Jul 25, and will then launch across other top local Android app stores.
