China appoints new senior officials

BEIJING - The State Council, China's cabinet, on Friday appointed Pan Gongsheng as deputy governor of the People's Bank of China, the country's central bank, replacing Du Jinfu.

Also Yang Dongliang was appointed director of the State Administration of Work Safety, replacing Luo Lin, while Chen Gaihu was appointed deputy director of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, replacing Wu Shimin.

Lu Jianping was named vice-president of Xinhua News Agency, replacing Tuo Zhen.

Xu Ke was named vice minister of health.

The State Council as well appointed Li Jiping and Wang Mingzhu as deputy directors of the office of the food safety commission under the State Council. Xu Yousheng was removed from the post of deputy director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council.
