Ruby Awards rate reds and whites

(China Daily) Updated: 2012-03-06 13:33

Representatives from embassies, media and the wine industry recently attended the Ruby Award ceremony, organized by Wine in China magazine to name the top 100 wines in the Chinese market in the past year.

China's wine market is rapidly growing and is poised to become the world's seventh largest. But the market hosts wines of poor quality, that are often fakes.

Ruby Award organizers intend the rating to be a fair and authoritative third-party appraisal. Eleven professional judges rated nearly 1,000 wines in the Chinese market and chose 100 of the highest grades.

In addition to varieties from traditionally celebrated wine-making countries like France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Australia, there are five wines from China.
