Indonesian men's doubles badminton players win gold medal at home

JAKARTA - Indonesia secured gold medals in men's doubles group of Indonesia Open super series badminton championship after its players Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan trashed South Korean seeded players in final match of the tournament held here on Sunday.

The Indonesian non-seeded players ended the match against No 2 Ko Hyung sun/Lee Yong dae in two games with 21-14, 21-18 which lasted 39 minutes. They received $55,300, while the South Korean players received $26,600 as a reward for runner up.

"We played well today. We have learned their playing from previous meet," Hadra Setiawan told a press conference after the match.

His partner, Muhammad Ahsan said that supports demonstrated by spectators at home had heat up his spirit to win the match.

Ahsan/Setiawan met the South Korean pairing in the recent Malaysia Open badminton championship. The latest head-to-head record between the two pairings was 2-0 for Indonesian players.

Meanwhile, Chinese No 1 women's singles player Li Xuerui championed the tournament in the final match.

Finalist of Indonesia Open 2012 Li Xuerui gone through a tough match that ended in three games 21-16, 18-21, 21-17 and lasted more than one hour that eventually awarding her $52,500 in reward as the champion. The No 4 Julianne Schenk received $26,600 as the runner-up.
