RIO DE JANEIRO - In the final stretch of his rehabilitation, Corinthians striker Adriano admitted to being overweight on Friday.

Still yet to play for Corinthians in 2011, he declared that he needs to drop three to four kilos before making his debut.

Adriano gave a provisional prevision of three weeks before making his highly awaited return to Brazilian soccer. He believes that within those three weeks he will be able to slim down to his desired weight.

During his final stages of recuperation, Adriano is working specifically on his quickness, agility, shot accuracy and physical conditioning. He pointed out that he is focusing especially hard on his headers, hoping to become more efficient in front of the net.

Corinthians personal trainer Fabio Mahseredjian exalted Adriano on his hard work ethic and congratulated him on his determination to return to the field. September 20 will mark Adriano's sixth month anniversary since his surgery on his ruptured tendon on his left foot.

If everything goes to plan, Adriano may make his debut in front of the Corinthians fans on October 9 against Atletico-GO in the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship.

The running-point tournament consists of 38 rounds. Corinthians currently stands in first place with 43 points, edging out second place Vasco da Gama with 42 points, third place Sao Paulo with 41 points and fourth place Botafogo with 40 points.

With 15 rounds remaining, the competition is wide open. Corinthians hopes that Adriano can return to the field and make a definitive difference and guide the team to its fifth national championship.
