Shao Chi Chog, president of Maanshan-based Xinhwa Gas Inc. and vice president of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises in Maanshan, opined that it is unrealistic for the DPP to change the status quo between Taiwan and the mainland, as promoting bilateral exchanges across the Straits is a good thing, and what the KMT and the Communist Party of China are doing right now is for the common good of people's livelihood.

"When you want to cancel a good thing, people will say no," he noted.

Jimmy Hsieh, TEEMA consultant and vice chairman, commented that whatever the outcome of election in Taiwan, the impact will be small. "But both sides have to see some adjustment," he said.

Currently, there are more than 200 Taiwan-funded businesses in Maanshan, which ranks No. 1 in Anhui in attracting investment from the island province and has set up the Taiwan Industrial Park, the Taiwan S&T Park and Taiwan Farmers Pioneering Park in Hexian county to better promote cross-Straits business ties.
