The Karamay Poetry Recitation Contest, themed "Song of Karamay", came to an end at the Shujian Garden in Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, on Aug 23.
Some 73 contestants were divided into a dozen groups to recite their original poetries and proses with emotion to express their love for Karamay.
A jury consisting of organizers and professional broadcasters in Karamay judged participants' performances, based on the quality of the lyrics and content of their poetry, emotion and stage presence.
A 20-member team won the first prize of the contest with their performance "We Discovered the No 1 Oil Well" and Lin Chihong, an oil worker, was awarded the title of the "best voice".
The poetry recitation contest, hosted by the Karamay Daily and Karamay's culture bureau, was part of the cultural activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the discovery of Karamay's first oilfield.
